Where the centres on this site come from, the licence that data carries, and how to correct it.
Two sources
Every centre is either curated or imported. Curated entries are researched and checked by hand and carry a verified badge. The rest are imported from OpenStreetMap so that the map is never empty, and each one says so on its page. We never invent a fact, a rating or a price for either kind.
OpenStreetMap and the ODbL
OpenStreetMap is an open map of the world built by contributors. Its data is published under the Open Database License (ODbL) 1.0, which allows anyone to use, share and build on it as long as OpenStreetMap contributors are credited and any shared database keeps the same licence. The rendered map tiles are © OpenStreetMap contributors.
What that means here
Entries drawn from OpenStreetMap — and the coordinates behind the map — stay under the ODbL and are credited on every page that shows them. If we ever publish that data as a database, for example through an API or an export, it goes out under the ODbL too. Our own curated research, editorial text and page design are not part of that database and remain ours.
Live search of an area
The map can query OpenStreetMap directly for places in the area you are looking at. Those results are fetched on demand through the Overpass API, shown as OpenStreetMap results, and are not part of our catalogue until an editor imports them.
Correcting an entry
For an imported entry, the durable fix is to correct the place in OpenStreetMap itself: the change flows back to us on the next import and helps everyone else using the same data. For a curated entry, or if something here is wrong regardless of the source, write to hello@example.com and we will fix or remove it.
